Four Connecticut House Democrats experienced bomb threats at their homes on Thanksgiving Day. The threats targeted Reps. Jim Himes, Jahana Hayes, Joe Courtney, and John Larson. Thankfully, the threats were deemed unfounded after a thorough response from law enforcement. This incident follows similar warnings received by nearly a dozen of President-elect Trump’s Cabinet nominees and other appointees on Tuesday night.
Rep. Jim Himes, who is the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, stated that he was celebrating Thanksgiving with his family when he received the bomb threat. He expressed gratitude for the quick and efficient response from the United States Capitol Police, the Greenwich Police Department, and the Stamford Police Department.
Similarly, Rep. Jahana Hayes was notified by the chief of the Wolcott Police Department about a threatening email regarding a pipe bomb in her mailbox. Law enforcement responded promptly and found no explosive materials at her home. Hayes commended the authorities for their swift action and reiterated that there is no place for political violence in the country.
A spokesperson for Rep. Joe Courtney confirmed that no evidence of a bomb was found at his property in Vernon. He and his family appreciated the law enforcement officers’ response, sending a clear message that such threats will not be tolerated.
Rep. John Larson also faced a bomb threat at his home in East Hartford. However, the police determined that there was no bomb present on the property, ensuring the safety of the Larson family.
According to Trump-Vance transition spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, the warnings against the Trump Cabinet nominees and appointees varied from bomb threats to ‘swatting.’ Among those targeted were John Ratcliffe, Pete Hegseth, and Rep. Elise Stefanik. Brooke Rollins and Lee Zeldin, who have been nominated for positions in the Trump administration, also reported being targeted.
In conclusion, the Connecticut House Democrats and the Trump Cabinet nominees and appointees faced alarming threats of violence. It is crucial to condemn such actions and uphold peace and civility in the country. Law enforcement’s swift responses to these threats demonstrate a commitment to ensuring the safety and security of public officials and their families.
