The Ulm regional court sentenced a 38-year-old to ten years in prison for the attempted murder of her newborn.
On Monday, the chamber found it proven that the woman had abandoned her baby in a waste glass container in the Alb-Donau district with the intent to kill last fall, shortly after its birth. A passer-by spotted the child and alerted rescue workers. The baby was unharmed.
According to a court spokeswoman, the public prosecutor’s office had previously requested a sentence of seven years and six months in prison for, among other things, attempted murder. The defense had therefore demanded a prison sentence of four years for, among other things, attempted murder.
Parts of the trial took place behind closed doors due to the personal and intimate circumstances of the crime. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
