A group of 60,000 self-proclaimed “White Dudes for Harris” recently gathered on a video call to show their support for Vice President Kamala Harris. This diverse group of supporters reflected the broad range of Democratic backing for her candidacy, showcasing the party’s ability to poke fun at itself.

The meeting began with Black women who have been meeting weekly for the past four years, followed by Black men and South Asian Americans. White women also joined the call, demonstrating a strong sense of solidarity and concern.

The highlight of the evening was the inaugural meeting of “White Dudes for Harris,” which brought together a wide array of white men in support of the Vice President. Actor Bradley Whitford humorously noted the diverse spectrum of whiteness present in the group, describing it as “a rainbow of beige.”

Although the call was organized independently and not officially affiliated with the Harris campaign, it served as a moment of unity and a statement against former President Donald J. Trump’s assumption that he exclusively represents white male voters.

Prominent figures such as Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, singers Josh Groban and Lance Bass, and actor Mark Hamill were among the speakers at the event. The governors of North Carolina and Illinois also made appearances, adding to the lighthearted atmosphere with jokes and humorous remarks.

Since President Biden endorsed Ms. Harris just over a week ago, there has been a surge of Democratic support for her candidacy, drawing comparisons to the excitement surrounding Barack Obama’s first presidential campaign.

The gathering of “White Dudes for Harris” exemplified the diverse and widespread backing for Vice President Harris within the Democratic Party, showcasing a sense of camaraderie and shared enthusiasm for her presidential aspirations.
