A new type of airline with dogs as passengers: Thanks to BARK Air, traveling with dogs will be luxurious and stress-free in the future.

Traveling with a pet can often be challenging, especially when it involves a trip above the clouds. The new project from BARK is now making the hearts of all dog lovers beat faster.

As Time magazine reports, BARK, a company that specializes in dog food and toys, is offering a completely new flying experience with BARK Air – especially for dogs and their owners. With the airline, dogs will no longer be in a transport box must travel in the cargo hold, but instead travel in the cabin with its owner.

The premiere flight from New York to Los Angeles on May 23rd is already fully booked – despite the high ticket prices. A one-way flight in June from New York to Los Angeles costs 6,000 US dollars, the equivalent of around 5,500 euros. A flight from New York to London costs almost 7,500 euros. However, the ticket is valid for one dog and its owner. BARK also states that it wants to reduce the cost of tickets in the future.

“We created this aviation service because, despite the enormous demand from dog lovers, there is simply no good or comfortable solution for traveling long distances with your dog,” the company explains on its website. “The dog’s well-being comes first, the human being comes second.”

The partnership with a charter airline allows BARK Air to completely tailor the flight experience to the needs of four-legged friends – with the aim of creating the highest level of comfort and happiness for the dog. On the flights, the animal passengers will have the opportunity to socialize with each other and will receive treats, noise-reducing earmuffs and drinks. For emergency relief, there are special areas both before boarding and emergency mats on board.

Travel expert Katy Nastro shared with Scripps News some tips and tricks for those who find traveling with BARK Air still too expensive but would still like to travel with their four-legged friends.

Since every airline has different policies, it’s important to do your research before booking your next flight with a four-legged friend. In particular, fees, restrictions on the size and types of pets allowed in the cabin can be tricky at times.

Although many airlines allow small animals to be carried in hand luggage, Nastro emphasizes that you should still reserve a seat for your pet as a precaution. “Most airlines allow a limited number of pets in the cabin during a flight,” Nastro told Scripps News. “They have to be a certain size, they have to fit under the seat in front of you.”
