Derry City Held to 0-0 Draw by Dundalk, Now Five Points Behind League Leaders
Derry City faced a tough battle as they were held to a 0-0 draw by bottom-placed Dundalk in the League of Ireland Premier Division clash at Oriel Park. The result keeps Derry City in second place on the table, now five points behind the league leaders Shelbourne.
Despite Dundalk having the better chances, Derry City came close to securing a late victory when substitute Ronan Boyce’s shot deflected off a Dundalk defender and hit the woodwork. This draw comes after Derry’s previous 2-2 draw against Sligo Rovers.
Dundalk’s Ross Munro denied Derry’s Adam O’Reilly early in the game, while Jamie Gullan missed a great opportunity to score in the first half. Derry’s goalkeeper Brian Maher had to make some crucial saves to keep Dundalk at bay.
In the second half, Dundalk continued to dominate but failed to convert their chances. Derry had a penalty shout turned down, and Maher made a fantastic save to deny Gullan. A late surge from Derry almost saw them snatch a victory, with Michael Duffy and Boyce both coming close to scoring.
Overall, it was a hard-fought match with both teams having their moments, but ultimately ending in a goalless draw. Derry City will now have to work harder to close the gap on the league leaders.
