Jules Koundé Addresses Criticism and Doubts in Recent Interview
Three years after joining the French national team, Jules Koundé has established himself as a starting right-back. However, the Barcelona defender continues to be a topic of debate following each of his performances, much like his predecessor Benjamin Pavard. The right-back position has been a point of contention for years, often leading coach Didier Deschamps to deploy central defenders in that role, with varying degrees of success. In an interview with Le Parisien on Saturday, Jules Koundé opened up about the criticisms and doubts surrounding his performance for France.
“This position does spark a lot of discussions because both Ben (Pavard) and I, are not natural full-backs. But we have certain qualities and, most importantly, with hard work, we are improving. Of course, I hear the criticisms. I would be lying if I said I don’t read or see them. Criticisms are part of the job, even when they are harsh or unfair. When they are disrespectful and target something other than the player, I pay less attention to them. Regardless, I try to focus on my work, on what I need to do, what I can control, and then I move forward,” stated the Barcelona player.
