The crisis caused by the pandemic coronavirus has caused a collapse of the historical electricity demand of nearly 24% in industry and services during the past month of April in our country, according to the index IRE prepared by REE, the operator of the electrical system.

“The effects of the health crisis are reflected with all its rawness in the records of consumption in April, which presented a historic setback average of nearly 23 points compared to the same month of the previous year, and where the classical corrections due to the effect of laboralidad and temperature barely relevant,” stresses REE.

While the middle fall has been from 22.8% , in the industry has reached 23.8% and in the services sector and 23.7%. It is worth noting the strong contraction recorded in the automotive sector, with declines greater than 75%.

In march, the average decrease of 8.2% , 11% in services and 7.6% in the industry.

REE explains that by branch of activity, the results clearly show the differential effects of this crisis on the different sectors of production. So, for example, the consumer goods presenting minor setbacks relating for the smallest decline of the agri-food industry and the increase in pharmacy.

Among the activities of services, again you can see the differential impact of this crisis, with strong contractions in the activities related with the tourism services and offices, and very high in the sporting and leisure activities.

In the opposite direction, and together with the pharmacy, there are also increases in consumption in the basic services of electricity and gas, the activities of sanitation and decontamination, services to buildings, and the computer.
