Hilo ended its independent existence as a subsidiary to join the ranks of the state corporation.

The integration of Hilo’s home automation and energy efficiency services, which began in January 2023, is now complete, the state-owned company said.

The repatriation of Hilo’s activities aims “to optimize its energy efficiency initiatives and to ensure the complementarity of the Hydro-Québec and Hilo mobile applications,” indicates the state-owned company. Hilo’s sales, customer service and marketing had already been taken over by Hydro-Québec.

The takeover by Hydro-Québec was finalized with the technological development activities which were still under the responsibility of the subsidiary.

Hydro-Québec considers Hilo as a virtual power plant that will one day allow it to count on a peak power of 625 megawatts, the equivalent of the production of Romaine-2.

That goal is still a long way off. During the winter of 2023-24, Hilo’s 40,000 customers will have displaced a total consumption of some 100 megawatts.
