No one could have predicted that Nelly Korda would have such a poor start at the US Open, with six consecutive wins this season, including a Major, the Chevron Championship. The world number 1 golfer began the tournament at hole 10 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania with a bogey, followed by a par.
However, it was at the par 3 12th hole that the American golfer collapsed, taking 10 shots to complete the hole. She hit her first shot into the bunker at the back of the green before sending a shot into the water. With two more shots in the rough, she finished the hole with a 10, severely impacting her first round and chances of victory.
Korda continued in a similar vein with two more bogeys on the 15th and 17th holes, ending the front nine with a score of +10. This unexpected turn of events has put a dent in her aspirations for the US Open title.
