(Newark) Forward Erik Haula agreed to a three-year, $9.45 million contract with the New Jersey Devils on Friday.
Haula could have achieved autonomy.
The 32-year-old set a career-high 27 assists last season, collecting 41 points in 80 games.
He helped New Jersey set a club record with 52 wins and 112 points en route to their first playoff appearance in five years.
Haula was playing his first season with the Devils, having been acquired in the trade sending Pavel Zacha to Boston.
Hailing from Finland, Haula has also played with Minnesota, Vegas, Carolina, Florida and Nashville.
In 614 NHL games, he has 126 goals and 281 points.
