From Field to Feast: Experience Farm-to-Table Dining at These Venues
The farm-to-table trend has been gaining popularity over the years, but some people are taking it to the next level by immersing themselves fully in the farm experience, especially when it comes to weddings.
One example is the Chatham Bars Inn on Cape Cod, which boasts an eight-acre farm right on the premises and hosts between 75 to 100 weddings each year. Couples like Matthew Steinberg and Michelle Schwartz are opting for unique farm-to-table experiences for their special day.
Last October, Matthew and Michelle tied the knot in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, with a stunning view of the Manhattan skyline from a rooftop farm. Guests enjoyed a cocktail hour outdoors, surrounded by lush crop beds, and even picked peppers that were later used in the pepper margaritas served at the wedding.
Brooklyn Grange, the organization behind the rooftop farm, hosts around 45 weddings from April to November at their Sunset Park and Brooklyn Navy Yard locations. Couples can expect rates starting at $13,500 for up to 150 people at Sunset Park and $6,000 for 50 guests or fewer at the Navy Yard.
The farms not only provide a picturesque backdrop for weddings but also serve as sources for fresh botanicals used in cocktails, wildflowers for decorations, and a variety of produce handpicked by staff and incorporated into catered meals.
Anastasia Cole Plakias, a founder of Brooklyn Grange, highlights the unique connection that guests experience when they see the plants and produce growing before their eyes and later taste them in their drinks or meals. The farm-to-table concept is evolving to a point where guests are not just dining at a table, but rather dining in the very farm where the food is grown.
In addition to the culinary and visual experience, wedding guests at these farm-to-table venues can also enjoy educational tours of the farms and take home gift baskets filled with freshly harvested produce. The farms offer a holistic and immersive experience that brings guests closer to nature and the food on their plates.
The farm-to-table dining trend is not just about eating fresh, locally grown food; it’s about connecting with the source of your food and appreciating the process that goes into cultivating it. Whether it’s a wedding, a special event, or a regular dining experience, farm-to-table venues offer a unique and memorable way to enjoy delicious food in a picturesque setting that celebrates the beauty of nature and sustainable agriculture.
