A sheriff’s deputy lost his life in Detroit during what the sheriff described as an ambush while trying to recover a stolen vehicle. Deputy Brad Reckling, a member of the Auto Theft Unit, was fatally shot during the investigation that started in Madison Heights and ended in Detroit.

Sheriff Michael Bouchard provided details during a press conference on Sunday, explaining that Deputy Reckling, along with two other officers, found the stolen 2022 Chevrolet Equinox before being ambushed by three individuals who opened fire, fatally striking Reckling in multiple areas of his body. The sheriff emphasized that it was indeed an ambush, highlighting the dangerous nature of law enforcement work.

Following the incident, Detroit police and Michigan State Police arrived at the scene and took three suspects into custody in connection with the deputy’s murder.
