The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning to the public regarding mushroom-infused chocolate bars that have led to some individuals being hospitalized. The FDA’s advisory message, released on June 7, cautions against consuming Diamond Shruumz “microdosing” chocolate bars, which contain a “proprietary nootropics blend” aimed at providing a relaxed and euphoric experience without psilocybin, as stated on the brand’s website.
An investigation is currently underway by the FDA, CDC, America’s Poison Centers, and other local and state partners into a series of illnesses linked to the consumption of Diamond Shruumz-brand Microdosing Chocolate Bars. The FDA website explicitly states, “Do not eat, sell, or serve Diamond Shruumz-Brand Microdosing Chocolate Bars,” emphasizing that the investigation is ongoing.
Microdosing involves taking small amounts of psychedelic substances with the purpose of enhancing productivity, creativity, and mood. Diamond Shruumz promotes its products as offering a subtle and sumptuous experience that fosters a more creative state of mind. However, reports have emerged of seizures, vomiting, and other severe symptoms experienced by consumers after consuming these chocolate bars.
Several individuals have sought medical attention due to the adverse effects, with six of them requiring hospitalization. Despite the brand’s claim that their products do not contain psychedelic substances like psilocybin or amanita, caution is advised as the chocolates may appeal to children and teenagers given their candy-like appearance.
Parents and caregivers are urged to discuss the FDA’s advisory with young individuals to prevent accidental consumption. The FDA and CDC continue to investigate the matter, underscoring the importance of keeping these products out of the reach of minors.
