MILWAUKEE — Mike Cameron understood the ball had beaten him into the plate. “You still need to produce the tag. I was secure,” he explained. Cameron’s drama aided Milwaukee salvage a break and win consecutive matches for the first time this month following a gloomy 8-16 beginning to July. “I was quite shocked,” Nationals newcomer J.D. Martin explained. “I understand that the ball beat him there so that I just sort of figured that he was outside.” But plate umpire Joe West, operating his 4,000th game, known as Cameron secure because Nieves’ label was not low enough. Nieves did not like the telephone, leaping about in disbelief, but said after the match that West was right. “I only tagged him too significant. I should have blocked the plate,” he explained. “It is one of the plays you have got to create sure won’t occur again. You find the replay and it was obvious he got in there.” “Throughout this time, you just kind of put your head down and keep moving,” Counsell said. The fact is it will be just as hard on the street with stops in Los Angeles and Houston. Following the match, Jeff Suppan (oblique) combined Dave Bush (triceps) on the disabled list to an already beleaguered beginning spinning and slumping third baseman Bill Hall accepted a mission to Triple-A Nashville. No accompanying roster moves were declared and general manager Doug Melvin was actively seeking pitching assistance ahead of Friday’s trade deadline. “It is going to be challenging for us.” Gallardo (10-7) was the sole stabilizing presence for the Brewers, who arrived to the month with a two-game lead to the NL Central and had to rally supporting their promising young right-hander. He struck out a batter in every inning but one, but let a three-run homer into Ryan Zimmerman at the fourth that made it 3-2. “Once I gave up the guide together with all the three-run home run, I simply said ,’We have got a fantastic team, we are going to turn around and put up some runs on the plank,” Gallardo said. Jason Kendall followed with a grounder to third and Zimmerman created a precise throw, but Nieves could not create the tag. Nieves was angry, but cooled quickly following West earlier tossed Nationals manager Jim Riggleman for asserting. “The disappointment that they believe then ballgame I presume is a fantastic thing. They are not only saying’Ah it is another reduction,” explained Riggleman, currently 6-9 considering taking over in the All-Star fracture for Manny Acta. “There is a great deal of disappointment in there which we did not win at least three from four” This was his fourth season after hitting four over his past two seasons combined. Zimmerman gave Washington a short lead before Fielder erased it. In the first with score attached 3-3, Gallardo struck Nick Johnson and Adam Dunn to ruler Nyjer Morgan at dawn and left the mound with a spring in his step. Dunn threw his bat toward the Nationals’ dugout in frustration, a part of many this year for the group with the worst record at the majors (32-70). “Together with all the three and four hitters up there, you have only got to step it up,” Gallardo said. “I managed to do that now and get two significant strikeouts in that inning.” Game notes
Hall was hitting .201 this year with only 17 at-bats in July. He turned down a mission before this month, however he opted to go this time and hopes to return in a week.
