(Dortmund) French team captain Kylian Mbappé, who suffered a broken nose, is back as a starter to face Poland in the final match of the first round of Euro 2024 (Group D), on Tuesday in Dortmund, we learned from a source close to Les Bleus.
The striker, who broke his nose at the end of the first match against Austria (1-0) on June 17, missed the clash against the Netherlands (0-0) on Friday.
The No.10 took part on Saturday in a first match since his injury against a youth team from Paderborn, a city in North Rhine-Westphalia where the Blues train, not far from their base camp. He then participated normally in the sessions on Sunday and Monday.
“It’s better every day, he’s better today than yesterday and the day before yesterday. Obviously since he did sessions. The hematoma has resolved well and he is getting used to the mask. He wants to play tomorrow as much as he wanted to play against the Netherlands,” said coach Didier Deschamps on Monday at a press conference.
The French team occupies 2nd place in Group D before its match against Poland, already eliminated. She will try to grab first place to avoid a part of the table which includes teams as formidable as Germany, host country, Spain and Portugal.
Mbappé’s recovery should also help to revive a French attack that has still not found the back of the net, the only French goal at the Euro having been scored against his own side by Austrian defender Maximilian Wöber.
