As the high school football season kicks off, Gator Country is back with its weekly preview of the Florida Gators commits. Every Thursday, we will give you a rundown of the upcoming games, and on Monday, we’ll bring you a full recap of the action, including stats and notes.
Let’s take a look at some key players to watch this week:
– Receiver Vernell Brown III from Orlando’s Jones High School will face off against Ocoee. Brown has had an impressive season so far with 57 catches for 852 yards and six touchdowns.
– Running back Waltez Clark from Tampa’s Plant High School will take on Steinbrenner. Clark has been a dual-threat with 367 rushing yards, 232 receiving yards, and a total of seven touchdowns.
– Punter Hayden Craig from Bridgton Academy will be in action against Naval Academy Prep School. Craig’s stats for the year are not available at this time.
– Running back Chad Gasper from Fulshear’s Jordan High School has a bye week this week but will be starting the playoffs next week.
– Tight end Tae’shaun Gelsey from Jacksonville’s Riverside High School will have a bye week before the playoffs. Gelsey has been a standout player with 831 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns.
– Defensive back Ben Hanks Jr. from Miami’s Booker T. Washington High School will also have a bye week. Hanks has been a force on defense with 22 tackles and four interceptions.
– Linebacker Myles Johnson from Brewton’s T.R. Miller High School will face W.S. Neal. Johnson has been a standout player with 395 yards and nine touchdowns this season.
– Defensive lineman Jeramiah McCloud from Leesburg’s Lee County High School will take on Houston County. McCloud has been a dominant force with 48 tackles, 16 tackles for a loss, and 3.5 sacks.
– Receiver Naeshaun Montgomery from Miami’s Central High School will have a bye week before the playoffs. Montgomery has been a reliable target with four touchdown catches.
– Defensive lineman Jalen Wiggins from Tallahassee’s Rickards High School will face Lincoln. Wiggins has been a standout on defense with 86 tackles, 18 tackles for a loss, and 14 sacks.
In addition, we have some exciting 2026 commits to watch:
– Quarterback Will Griffin from Tampa’s Jesuit High School will take on Tampa Catholic. Griffin has been impressive with 1,450 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and three interceptions.
– Defensive back Devin Jackson from Orlando’s First Academy will face Calvary Christian. Jackson has been a defensive standout with 74 tackles, four interceptions, and five pass breakups.
– Defensive back Jaelen Waters from Seffner’s Armwood High School will face Riverview. Waters has been a solid presence on defense with 16 tackles, one interception, and one fumble recovery.
