(Philadelphia) The Philadelphia Flyers announced Friday that they are buying out the remainder of forward Cam Atkinson’s contract.

Atkinson is under contract until 2025. He spent three years in the Flyers uniform, with whom he had 36 goals and 42 assists in 143 games.

In 2021-22, he received two individual honors on the team, including Most Valuable Player. He missed the entire 2022-23 season with a neck injury.

Flyers general manager Daniel Brière said it was a difficult decision.

“Throughout his time with the Flyers, Cam has demonstrated an incredible work ethic and a level of professionalism that reflects on him as a player and person,” said Brière. I witnessed first-hand the amount of effort, dedication and perseverance he put through a very difficult rehabilitation process in order to return to the game and be a leader for our team, on and off ice. »

Atkinson spent the first 10 years of his career with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
