(Paris) French driver Pierre Gasly has extended his contract with Alpine for several seasons, the French Formula 1 team said on Thursday, specifying that his teammate in 2025 would be chosen “in due time”, in reference to the announced departure of Esteban Ocon .
This “multi-year” agreement “extends Pierre’s current contract for the 2025 season and beyond,” writes Alpine in a press release, without mentioning the number of years provided for by this extension.
Aged 28, Pierre Gasly joined the French team last season and has competed in 32 races since (67 points).
“He is a great ambassador for the Alpine brand, so we look forward to continuing our collaboration,” commented team boss Bruno Famin, quoted in the press release.
“I really feel at home in this great team… The goal has always been to build for the long term. If the track season has been difficult so far, I am remaining faithful to the project and I am not going anywhere… There is a lot of potential,” Pierre Gasly, for his part, reacted.
Gasly, who started in F1 in 2017 with the Toro Rosso team, has competed in 140 Grands Prix in total, taking a victory in 2020 at Monza, the first by a French driver in F1 since Olivier Panis in 1996 at Monaco .
His teammate and compatriot Esteban Ocon, who has occupied a Renault then Alpine seat since 2020, will, however, leave the French team at the end of the season.
Aged 27, he also has a victory under his belt, in 2021 in Hungary. Its future destination is not known.
As for his successor, at Alpine, “we will take our time,” Bruno Famin said on Thursday. “We are excited about the options available to us,” he added.
