Shots were fired at two crime scenes in Hagen on Saturday afternoon. Several people were injured. The police have arrested a suspect.
After four people were shot in Hagen and a large-scale manhunt was launched, a 34-year-old man suspected of the crime has been arrested. The suspected perpetrator was arrested south of Hagen on Sunday at around 2:40 p.m. following witness reports, said a spokesman for the Dortmund police. The “Bild” newspaper had previously reported.
A large police force had been searching for the man since Saturday morning. He is believed to have fired the shots in a residential building and a hairdressing salon on Saturday morning. At the request of the Hagen public prosecutor’s office, an arrest warrant was issued against the accused for four counts of attempted murder.
The suspect is said to have first shot his wife in the apartment they shared in an apartment building. She was reportedly shot in the head. The man then fired several times at an apartment door one floor up. No one was injured there. The 34-year-old Turkish citizen then drove to a hair salon in a car and shot three more people there. Both crime scenes are only a ten-minute walk apart. According to initial findings, the background to the crime was family-related.
According to new information from the police on Sunday, the injuries of two of the four victims were still considered “potentially life-threatening”. These include the wife of the alleged perpetrator and a person from the hairdressing salon who was shot. The police did not provide any further information on the age and gender of the injured. All four injured people were treated in different hospitals.
After the crime, the man drove his car to a nearby parking lot and fled on foot, it was said. A helicopter was used on Saturday to search for the suspect. The police said they had also received continuous tips from the public and had followed up on them.
