Dianna Mateos and Edgar Angel’s love story began over a decade ago at a quinceañera. The two were paired as dance partners at the event, not remembering if they danced to a merengue or a cumbia song. Despite the initial uncertainty, they hit it off during rehearsals.
Ms. Mateos, now 27, revealed that Edgar’s cousin, who was her best friend in high school, played matchmaker and insisted that they be paired up for the quinceañera. Mr. Angel, 27, had only recently met his cousin but agreed to participate in the event.
Initially reluctant to attend the quinceañera because he wanted to play soccer with his friends, Mr. Angel’s perspective changed after meeting Ms. Mateos. He found himself looking forward to all the dance practices and spending time with her.
Their relationship blossomed after the celebration, as they both attended Bell High School in Southeast Los Angeles. Six months later, Mr. Angel asked Ms. Mateos to be his girlfriend, and their early dates included trips to Taco Bell, walks in the mall, and drives around the city.
Following high school, they continued their relationship while pursuing their college education at California State University, Los Angeles. Ms. Mateos graduated in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in social work and child development, while Mr. Angel earned a bachelor’s degree in business marketing.
