Milan Borjan, goalkeeper and captain of Canada’s soccer team, will miss the remainder of the Gold Cup tournament due to an unspecified injury.
Canada Soccer officials say Borjan has returned to Europe to recover from his injury while awaiting the start of the 2023-24 club season.
Borjan defended the nets for the national team in Canada’s draws against Guadeloupe, 2-2 on Tuesday in Toronto, and against Guatemala, 0-0 on Saturday in Houston.
With two points in two outings, Canada must win its last Group D game, against Cuba on Tuesday in Houston, to advance to the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Borjan leads Canada’s National Men’s Team in games played as a goaltender with 77 and shutouts with 35.
