It’s just a snapshot, but: The Greens have fallen to their worst party preference score in six years. This was the result of a survey that the news magazine “Focus” commissioned the Verian Institute (formerly Kantar/Emnid) to conduct.
The time period of the survey is interesting: it was between June 5 and 11, so the survey was partly carried out after the European elections. According to the report, the Greens are at 13 percent (minus one); the last time they were doing this badly in Verian was in June 2018.
Compared to the previous survey in mid-May, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) gained 17 percent (plus one) and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) gained 6 percent (plus one), the highest value recorded by Kantar to date. The Left Party lost ground, falling to 3 percent (minus one).
There are no changes for the CDU/CSU (30 percent), SPD (16 percent), FDP (five percent), the Free Voters (3 percent) and the other parties (7 percent).
In the European elections, the CDU/CSU received 30 percent, the second strongest party was the Alternative for Germany with 15.9 percent. The SPD received 13.9 percent of the vote, the Greens 11.9 percent. The BSW received 6.2 percent of the vote, the FDP 5.2 percent, and the Left 2.7 percent.
For the survey, Verian interviewed 1,425 people, the survey period was June 5 to 11, 2024.
