Dramatic pet mix-up for a family in Washington. A mobile butcher slaughtered two domestic pigs because he got the address wrong.
A family in Washington state has shockingly lost their pets. According to a report in The Guardian, the two pigs were accidentally killed by a mobile butcher. Accordingly, the man showed up at the wrong address and slaughtered the animals named Patty and Betty.
The family’s surveillance camera documented how an unknown truck drove onto their property on May 1 and an employee of the slaughterhouse killed the two pigs. “Both Patty and Betty were lying in a large pool of blood and were completely filthy, and one of the two animals was tied up,” the Guardian quoted the pigs’ owner as saying.
The Grays adopted the pigs in 2022 and loved them like their other pets – cats, dogs, ducks and a chicken. The owner says of the animals: “They were adorable. They were so cute. They were the size of a small dog.”
The family reported the incident to local police and hired a lawyer. He explained that the law treats pigs like any other domestic animal. Intentional killing without legal justification is therefore a serious crime.
The pig owner reported that the mobile butcher attributed the mix-up to a faulty GPS navigation device. The butcher even offered the family to process the animals’ meat. They refused and buried the animals on their property.
There are also more and more mobile butchers in Germany. The offers exist, among other things, to ensure greater animal welfare. The butcher Martin Mayr reports about this in the “Wochenblatt”. He also showcases his work on social media.
