For months, a cafeteria cook in Bolzano took food from his workplace and brought it to his wife’s wine shop, where she then sold it.
A cafeteria cook works in the kitchen of a cafeteria. Cafeterias are dining halls at colleges, universities or sometimes in larger companies where students, lecturers and employees can eat at reduced prices.
A 56-year-old state employee and cafeteria cook from Bolzano is said to have systematically stolen food from the cafeteria he managed and served it in his wife’s wine shop, as “südtirolnews” reports. A wine shop is usually primarily about selling and tasting wine. Snacks or small dishes are also offered.
But not only was much of what was on his wife’s plate stolen, but according to the report, canteen crockery also turned up in the wine shop. The chef’s side business was discovered because supplies in the cafeteria were running low due to months of regular food theft.
The Carabinieri began investigations and were able to convict the suspected thief. The evidence against him appears to be overwhelming, according to “südtirolnews”. During the course of the investigation, video cameras installed in the cafeteria were discovered which recorded the man committing the crime.
But it is not just the cafeteria chef who is now dealing with the consequences of his actions. According to the report, his wife is also facing trouble because the kitchen used in their restaurant did not have an operating license.
