(Calgary) Canada’s golf team for the Paris Olympics is complete, with Brooke Henderson and Alena Sharp set to play in the women’s tournament.
Golf Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee made their inclusion official on Monday. Henderson and Sharp were the top-ranked Canadian women in the world when the qualifying window closed on Sunday.
Henderson, 26, of Smiths Falls, Ontario, will be competing in her third Olympic Games. Sharp, a 43-year-old golfer from Hamilton, will also be there for a third time.
Henderson, who has won 13 LPGA Tour titles and is ranked 14th in the world, was seventh at the 2016 Rio Games and 29th at the 2021 Tokyo Games.
“Every time we get the chance to represent our country, it’s a very proud moment,” Henderson said. To be able to wear the maple leaf and go to Paris is really exciting for me. »
Sharp, 292nd in the world, finished 30th in Rio and 40th in Tokyo. However, she won the bronze medal at the 2023 Pan American Games in Chile.
“To make it to the Olympic Games for a third time was a very important goal for me at the beginning of the year and I am extremely proud to have achieved it,” said Sharp. Representing Canada is the greatest honor of my career. »
Nick Taylor and Corey Conners were named to the Canadian men’s team last week.
