A plastic surgeon in Florida allegedly refused to call 911 when complications arose during his wife’s treatment. The doctor has now turned himself in.
According to the American news portal “Huff Post”, plastic surgeon Benjamin J. B. (41) from Florida turned himself in to the authorities on Monday. He is accused of negligent homicide. He did not want to call the emergency services during cosmetic surgery on his wife. The woman died a short time later in the hospital.
As the Huff Post reports, Hillary B. (33) was scheduled for several cosmetic procedures at her husband’s office on the morning of November 21, 2023. According to a complaint filed by the Florida Department of Health, the procedures to be performed included muscle tightening, scar corrections and lip injections.
During questioning, staff at the practice told police officers, whose records were made available to the Huff Post, about the hair-raising course of the operation that led to her seizure. She had taken a “handful” of pills before the procedure. The anesthetic ran out during the operation. The surgeon then instructed his staff to fill “two containers in a bowl” and inject the contents into his wife. This ultimately led to an overdose.
Several employees said they were going to call emergency services when the complications arose, but Benjamin J.B. told them to wait because he “wanted to try it himself,” according to police documents. Prosecutors identified the undiluted solution as lidocaine. The warrant states that the medical examiner determined complications of lidocaine poisoning as the cause of death, according to the newspaper.
Marty E., the woman’s father, blamed his son-in-law for the tragic incident. “His ego and arrogance overshadowed the need for help and ultimately caused her death from lack of oxygen to the brain,” the distraught father told the newspaper.
