In addition to the helmet decals, the Vikings have decided to pay out the remainder of Jackson’s signing bonus to his estate. His signing bonus was $827,148, which he received after being drafted as the team’s fourth-round pick from Oregon this year. The organization also plans to cover a “significant portion” of Jackson’s funeral costs, showing their commitment to honoring his memory.
The team has made it clear that no player will wear Jackson’s No. 31 jersey this season out of respect for him. Jackson’s passing also claimed the lives of his high school teammates, Isaiah Hazel and Anthony “AJ” Lytton, in the same tragic accident. The crash involved three vehicles, including a Dodge Charger, a silver Infinity Q50, and a Chevy Impala.
Maryland State Police investigation revealed that the crash occurred when the driver of the Infinity Q50 attempted to change lanes at a high speed, causing a series of collisions with the Dodge Charger and the Chevy Impala. While the driver of the Infinity and the Chevy Impala driver escaped with minor injuries, Hazel and Jackson were pronounced dead at the scene, and Lytton later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
There is speculation that alcohol may have played a role in the crash, although authorities have not confirmed which driver was under the influence. Head coach Kevin O’Connell expressed his devastation over the loss of Jackson, praising his energy, confidence, and positive impact on the team.
