A family finds out one day before their trip that their vacation is being cancelled due to the insolvency of the tour operator FTI. They are now fighting for a refund of 3,000 euros.

With the insolvency of the tour operator FTI, thousands of holiday dreams are currently being shattered – including that of a family from Paderborn. Fun, relaxation, delicious food: The Biehls had already booked a holiday in Mallorca in December and had been looking forward to it for months, as the “Bild” newspaper reports.

It was supposed to start on June 4th. “We have two small children, one and three years old, and because of my job as a chef, I only have longer vacations in the summer. My wife is on parental leave, so we currently only have one salary, but we still wanted to treat ourselves to the trip,” the “Bild” newspaper quoted the father as saying.

But the trip never came to fruition. The insolvency of the tour operator FTI put a stop to the family’s plans.

One day before their planned departure, the Biehls learned that the trip had been cancelled. “They were officially informed by Check 24,” the portal through which they had booked, that the trip had been cancelled, Toby Biehl explained to the “Bild” newspaper. The family had paid 3,000 euros for the trip to Mallorca.

According to the report, Biehl said he had been assured that the amount would be refunded in full by the German Travel Protection Fund. To do this, however, FTI would have to submit the family’s vacation details to the fund, which has not yet happened. It is completely unclear whether she will ever get the money back.

The family is still waiting for a refund of around 400 euros for the rental car, which they also had to cancel. “It’s not a nice feeling to be left hanging like this,” complains the father. “I feel cheated.”

Holidaymakers in Mallorca are also facing problems due to the insolvency of the tour operator FTI. Many arrive at the airport in Mallorca but have to make their own way to their booked hotel.

Europe’s third largest tour operator, FTI Touristik, is bankrupt. The supposed rescue of the ailing Munich-based travel group has therefore failed. This has massive consequences for holidaymakers. Read here what those affected must do now.
