Another incident involving the aircraft giant Boeing: On the way from Toronto to Paris, the passengers experience a moment of shock: shortly after takeoff, flames burst from one of the engines. The pilot has to turn around.
A dramatic incident occurred on Wednesday evening on a flight from Toronto to Paris Charles de Gaulle: an Air Canada Boeing 777-300ER had to turn around shortly after takeoff due to a technical defect in one of the engines. Flames and smoke were coming out of the right engine. There were 389 passengers on board.
Immediately after the incident, the tower radioed to the pilots: “Air Canada 872, you have a lot of fire.” The captain then let the Boeing climb to around 900 meters so that it could then safely turn around.
A blessing in disguise: After around 50 minutes, the plane landed safely at Toronto airport. No one was injured, but the people on board will probably not forget the dramatic images any time soon. Amateur videos published by eyewitnesses on “X” show the terrifying images.
The airline Air Canada later announced that there was a problem with the compressor in the engine. The Boeing will be taken out of service for further investigations until further notice.
With the latest breakdown, aircraft manufacturer Boeing cannot escape the negative headlines. The US giant has been battling a series of technical problems for months.
A particularly serious incident occurred in January of this year: During a flight, part of the cabin shell – about the size of an airplane door – came loose. The 737-9 Max was at an altitude of around 5,000 meters at the time.
In May, it was also announced that inadequate insulation had been discovered near the fuel tanks on the current 777 fleet. According to the US aviation authority FAA, this could lead to fires.
