While football fans were celebrating the German national team’s opening goal at the European Championships on Wednesday evening, a terrible violent crime occurred in Wuppertal.
An argument between the deaf Markus D. (48) and his partner (42) escalated in the Wuppertal apartment in the Elberfeld district. During the argument, Markus D. grabbed a knife and fatally injured his partner. The incident happened during the European Championship match between the German team and Hungary on Wednesday evening. The “Bild” newspaper reported on it.
The rescue team arrived at the scene at 6:32 p.m. Despite the quick response of the ambulance and emergency doctors, help came too late for the mother of one daughter. She died in the shared apartment as a result of the knife attack.
Markus D., the alleged perpetrator, also suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. The background to the argument that led to the brutal act is still unclear.
The family’s environment is in shock. A neighbor spoke to Bild and described Markus D. as a “nice guy” from whom one would never have expected such an act. The deaf man always communicated through gestures and could neither hear nor speak.
