For months, the US aircraft manufacturer Boeing has had to deal with a series of incidents with its new 737 MAX 8 aircraft. There has been a whole range of defects, from burst tires to aircraft parts breaking off.

Likewise, in April 2024, a whistleblower came forward and revealed quality defects during production. And Boeing’s series of mishaps does not seem to be stopping. Korean Air flight KE189 from the South Korean capital Seoul to Taiwan encountered difficulties again.

With 125 passengers on board, the plane took off from Seoul at 5:09 p.m. and began its two-and-a-half-hour journey. But after just a short time, the pilots in the cockpit were informed of a fault in the pressure system.

The pilots immediately reduced the altitude by almost seven kilometers, according to the “FlightRadar24” portal. This abrupt adjustment of altitude did not go unnoticed by the passengers. Oxygen masks were lowered and many of those present complained of severe earaches, headaches and dizziness.

The passenger plane landed safely back in Seoul shortly afterwards. Local authorities confirmed that 13 passengers were taken to local hospitals. All other passengers were initially accommodated in a hotel and flown to Taiwan on a replacement plane the next day.

So there is still no peace at the aircraft manufacturer with the motto “I’m not going, if it’s not Boeing”. The airline KoreanAir subsequently apologized to those affected.
