(London) Princess Anne, sister of King Charles III, was released on Friday from the hospital where she had been admitted five days earlier after receiving a blow to the head apparently caused by a horse, the British royal family said.
The 73-year-old daughter of Elizabeth II was released from Southmead Hospital in Bristol (South West England) where she had been treated since Sunday evening for a concussion and “minor injuries”. In the morning she returned to her country residence in Gatcombe Park (West London).
In a statement, her husband Tim Laurence conveyed “his warmest thanks to the team at Southmead Hospital for their care, expertise and kindness during the short stay” of his wife, who is very popular in England.
On Wednesday, he indicated that the princess was recovering “slowly” after the accident. She is expected to remain at her Gatcombe Park property while she recovers and will only resume public activities with the green light from her doctors.
According to British media, the shock caused memory problems and the princess could not remember precisely what happened while she was walking around her property.
According to his doctors, his “minor” head injuries would be consistent with a shock caused by a horse’s head or legs.
Anne is a top rider and even represented her country at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
Because of this accident, the princess had to cancel her participation in the state banquet organized Tuesday evening at Buckingham Palace in honor of the Emperor of Japan Naruhito and his wife Empress Masako, as well as a trip in Canada scheduled for the weekend.
Anne, who has the title Princess Royal, is the most active among the royals, with hundreds of engagements a year. She carried more last year than King Charles and the sovereign’s cancer, like that of Princess Kate, has further increased her burden this year.
Valued for her sense of duty and outspokenness, the late queen’s only daughter is more popular than her brother Charles III, according to a recent YouGov poll.
