DB has announced increased security measures for the upcoming UEFA EURO 2024™ to ensure the safety of customers and employees during the European Football Championship. In collaboration with the German Federal Police and UEFA, DB is intensively preparing for the matches.

With nearly 6,000 German Federal Police agents and 4,500 security staff on duty around the clock throughout Germany, DB is increasing its security presence by approximately 20%. This includes adding around 900 security staff at stations and on trains, particularly in the ten host cities and on the trains to these venues. All security staff can be easily identified by their high-visibility EURO vests.

As a key player in the European Championship in Germany, DB expects tens of thousands of additional passengers traveling to the venues by train. Safety remains the top priority for DB, with an annual investment of over EUR 200 million to ensure the security of passengers and employees.

Utilizing the expertise of the Rail Security Center established in 2005, DB will closely monitor and assess security issues during the EURO. The center, operated by German Federal Police agents and DB employees, plays a critical role in coordinating security measures and responding to events and reports.

Furthermore, DB’s situation and operations centers will monitor security situations in regions around the clock and coordinate the deployment of security staff. Close collaboration with police, fire brigades, and emergency services, as well as EURO 2024 GmbH, ensures comprehensive planning and coordination of security measures for the European Championship.

Despite the unique nature of the tournament, DB has experience handling large crowds of football fans on a regular basis during the football season. By leveraging existing security protocols and enhancing measures for the EURO, DB aims to provide a safe and secure travel experience for all customers and employees during the championship.
