On Thursday morning, the Frankfurt police made a strange discovery during a traffic check. As the officers describe in their press release, they stopped a vehicle with an unusual load. In the trunk of the car there were a total of 800 kilograms of ground beef.
During the inspection at around 3 a.m., which took place on Schwanheimer Ufer, the police found that the car was also significantly overloaded.
However, it was not necessarily the quantity itself that was particularly alarming. The minced meat was unrefrigerated, packed in bags and stacked up to the ceiling in the trunk. According to police, the car resembled a “mobile butcher’s shop.”
The 55-year-old driver of the car told police officers that the meat was for personal use and had been purchased from a truck driver. However, police remained skeptical.
The officials secured the meat cargo and initiated proceedings for a suspected violation of the Animal Diseases Act. This law includes, among other things, regulations for the transport of meat and meat products in order to prevent the spread of animal diseases.
