Pascal Siakam plans to sign a four-year, US$189.5 million contract to remain with the Indiana Pacers, a person with knowledge of the matter told The Associated Press.
The agreement would be concluded once such signings are permitted in the NBA at the beginning of July.
The source spoke anonymously, because under league regulations neither the player nor the club can make an announcement before the scheduled date.
Citing confidential sources, ESPN was the first to report that Siakam wants to stay with the Pacers.
The autonomy period only begins on June 30, but there is no violation of circuit rules in this case.
According to the new collective agreement, once the NBA Finals are over, teams can begin talking with free agents who were in their ranks.
A star player in 2020 and 2023, Siakam won the NBA championship in 2019 with the Toronto Raptors.
The Pacers acquired the 30-year-old Cameroonian in January. Siakam helped lead Indiana to the Eastern Conference finals, where the team lost to the eventual winners, the Boston Celtics.
In 41 games with the Pacers, Siakam showed a 38% success rate on three-pointers.
Including 39 games with Toronto, Siakam averaged 21.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game last season.
