(Ottawa) Inflation picked up a little in May, at 2.9%, fueled in particular by the price of cell phone plans, organized trips, rents and air transport, according to Statistics Canada.
This is a slight increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which stood at 2.7% in April. Economists expected a slight slowdown in price growth last month.
This result observed by the federal agency could have an impact on the Bank of Canada, which recently reduced its key rate for the first time in four years. On June 5, the central bank’s reference rate was reduced to 4.75%.
More details to come.
