A woman is causing a stir with a threat to a toddler on the Internet. Her husband warned the parents that he would discipline the girl.

According to the Daily Mail, an incident on a flight from Atlanta to Denver has sparked a heated debate on the internet. Shayla Monnier, an operating room nurse and TikToker, described the experience in a video on the short video platform. A stranger’s child spat on her and her husband several times during the flight.

The incident began when a little girl, who Monnier estimated to be about three to five years old, repeatedly turned toward Monnier and her husband and spat in their faces. Despite the parents’ efforts to get the child under control, the girl’s behavior repeated itself. Monnier reported that on the third occasion, her husband lost his patience and threatened the parents, “If you don’t get your child under control, I will.”

Even though Monnier, as a mother, understands that “traveling with children is sometimes hard,” she still criticized the child’s parents. The nurse wondered whether the child might have special needs. Nevertheless, the case is clear to her. Two adults should be able to look after a small child.

After a verbal altercation following the husband’s threat, the incident finally ended with a flight attendant intervening and asking the parents to put a mask on the girl. Monnier and her husband were given flight vouchers and the child slept for the rest of the flight.

The clear warning to parents shocked some Internet users. A heated debate broke out in the comment columns about who was in the right. One user called for a drastic solution to the problem: adult-only flights. One airline has already experimented with child-free offers.

The airline Corendon has reserved the front compartment of its Airbus A350 for passengers over 16 years of age. Anyone who wants to sit there can enjoy “a little more peace and quiet” for an additional charge of 45 euros per route, said airline boss Atilay Uslu. Malaysia Airlines and Air Asia X have also introduced such offers on a trial basis. In both cases, however, the idea was rejected.

Children on airplanes are a known source of unrest, and not just for passengers. In a particularly serious case of parental inaction, a plane belonging to the Colombian airline Latam even had to leave the runway because a 10-year-old refused to fasten his seatbelt. The father just watched idly.

Because the plane cannot take off unless all passengers are buckled in, the captain had to clear the runway and steer the fully occupied plane back to the gate. The father and his child were removed from the plane by security staff after an hour.
