After an altercation in which a man was injured in Penkun (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) on Saturday night, the State Security Service has launched an investigation on suspicion of incitement to hatred.
According to witnesses, shortly before the crime, some people on a festival meadow had shouted the lyrics “Foreigners out – Germany for the Germans” to the tune of Gigi D’Agostino, the police announced on Sunday. In the subsequent altercation, six to seven people are said to have attacked a 24-year-old German and injured him in the face. “The victim has a southern appearance, and a connection between the shouting of the slogans and the crime cannot be ruled out,” the police said.
The police received an emergency call at around 2:45 a.m. The heavily drunk man was no longer able to give officers any further information about the course of events. After being treated by the emergency services, he refused further treatment and went home accompanied by a 23-year-old. However, she contacted the officers on Saturday evening. The 24-year-old’s injuries were more serious than expected. He was treated in a hospital. The police have already filed a criminal complaint for bodily harm and are investigating further criminal offenses.
