A relaxing holiday at France’s Lac du Bourget took a shocking turn for Anna Tanushi and her daughter when they developed huge blisters on their legs and hands after swimming in the lake. “I asked myself: ‘Are these really my legs? Is this me?'” Anna Tanushi told BFMTV.

As the French broadcaster reports, the case of phytophotodermatosis, also known as meadow dermatitis, is described as a reaction to a combination of contact with plants and exposure to the sun. This was confirmed by Marie-Odile Riou-Gotta, head of the dermatology department at the Métropole Savoie hospital. Despite the lack of similar cases in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Tanushi and her daughter had to undergo intensive treatment, including medication containing morphine.

Lac du Bourget, also known as Lac Gris, is the largest natural non-glacial lake in France. It is located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of eastern France. A popular tourist destination, the lake offers numerous recreational opportunities such as swimming, sailing and hiking. It is also known for its picturesque landscape and biodiversity – and is also known for the surrounding spa towns such as Aix-les-Bains, which have long been prized for their thermal baths and wellness facilities.

At the same time, Stephanie Williams from Wales experienced tragedy during a family holiday in Alicante, Spain. She collapsed in the hotel room and had to undergo urgent surgery for a ruptured brain aneurysm. “My mum is only 42 and me and my siblings need her,” her daughter Aimee told Wales Online.

The insurance did not cover all the costs, so the family appealed to a Go Fund Me page to cover the medical expenses. The appeal for help touched many people and a considerable amount has already been donated.

The Lac du Bourget incident has changed the lives of Anna Tanushi and her daughter forever. Although the blisters have subsided, they still require daily treatment. “I had neither the courage nor the strength to touch my legs,” Tanushi revealed to BFMTV, describing her ongoing difficulties.

Stephanie Williams, who lost consciousness in Alicante, Spain, is still fighting for her life. Her family’s solidarity is stronger than ever. “She needs to wake up and fight for her recovery so she can come home to us again,” Aimee stressed, while her mother is in a “very critical condition” in the intensive care unit.
