ITV Axes Popular Thriller Series Despite Promising Fans New Installment

In a surprising turn of events, ITV has decided to axe the popular thriller series, The Beast Must Die, despite previously assuring fans that a new series was in the works. The drama, which originally premiered in 2021 and was well-received by audiences, was initially greenlit by BritBox UK. The show, based on the book of the same name by Nicholas Blake, was a five-part limited series that featured former The Crown star Jared Harris in the lead role.

Disappointment Among Fans as Plans for Second Series Scrapped

Fans of the show were eagerly anticipating the second series, which was announced by ITV in the summer of 2021. Titled “A Sword In My Bones,” the new series was set to be based on an original story created by the show’s screenwriter, Gaby Chiappe, known for her work on popular series such as Doctors, Vera, and EastEnders. The follow-up was supposed to focus on Detective Nigel Strangeways, played by Billy Howle, and the storyline was set to revolve around a grieving mother named Frances Cairnes, portrayed by Cush Jumbo, seeking justice for her son’s death in a hit-and-run accident.

However, with the recent absorption of BritBox into ITV and the network’s shift towards ITVX, plans for the new series have been unexpectedly shelved, much to the disappointment of fans who were eagerly awaiting the next installment of the gripping thriller.

Uncertain Future for The Beast Must Die and Its Characters

The decision to cancel the follow-up series has left the future of The Beast Must Die and its intriguing characters in limbo. The complex storyline of revenge, deception, and justice that captivated audiences in the first season may never see a resolution, leaving fans with unanswered questions and unresolved plotlines. While the fate of the show remains uncertain, one thing is clear – the unexpected cancellation has left fans of The Beast Must Die craving closure and hoping for a revival of the beloved series in the future.
