(Kansas City) Patrick Mahomes will get a break in the Kansas City Chiefs’ final regular season game on Sunday.
He will have time off since the Chiefs won an eighth straight sectional title, in addition to securing a third seed in the playoffs.
Blaine Gabbert will therefore be the starter against the Chargers in Los Angeles. The reserve will be Chris Oladokun.
Gabbert was hired this offseason to replace Chad Henne. He retired after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl triumph last February.
The Chiefs (10-6) value having a veteran to support Mahomes.
In 12 seasons in the NFL, Gabbert was the starter in 48 games.
“He works so hard in practice, so it’s great that he gets a chance to play,” coach Andy Reid said. He’s already been a starter. We are convinced that he knows what to do and that he will be successful. »
Los Angeles (5-11) has won just once since Nov. 6.
