Chiefs wide receiver Sammy Watkins said he is optimistic about playing Super Bowl LV on Sunday from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after missing both previous playoff games because of a calf injury.
“Still exercising with the coaching team and [athletic trainer Rick Burkholder], just going over what so I may have an opportunity and go out there and believe 100% or 95% or 85 percent, wherever I purchase in by Sunday. Feeling pretty good, very optimistic. Been having great practices”
Watkins also missed six games during the regular season. He was fifth on the Chiefs with 37 receptions, 421 yards and two touchdowns.
In the final season of his contract,” Watkins said he’d listen if the staff would love to re-sign him because he appreciates playing and winning in Super Bowls over personal stats and money.
“I’d say, let us win this Super Bowl and determine where my mind will be at,” Watkins explained. “It would surely be something to consider. It would definitely be something I’d speak with my wife and my kids about, to consider coming back. Can I really like a third ring? For sure.
“I would definitely not say it. … To come back and win a third one? Yeah. I do not mind. I would definitely have to sit down and think about it, see what my future holds.”
