Self’s recent arrangement, that had less than 1 year remaining, was substituted with a brand new last-minute rolling arrangement which adds one year in the conclusion of every season for the rest of his career.

As we all continue to work through the challenges confronting our programwe anticipate moving forward and focusing on our future. “For nearly 20 decades, Coach Self has embodied the spirit and heritage of this University of Kansas, directing our men’s basketball program into a national championship, 15 Big 12 titles and 17 NCAA Tournament appearances,” Girod stated in the discharge. “We think in Coach Self and we all think in the future of the schedule under his direction, and we’re thrilled that he’ll continue to become a Jayhawk for the remainder of his training career.”
Kansas was knocked from the next round of the year’s NCAA championship by USC after making a 3-seed. The Jayhawks ended 21-9 overall, 12-6 at the Big 12.
“Bill Self has meant a huge amount into the University of Kansas and also our whole Lawrence community during his 18 seasons,” interim athletic director Watson stated in the announcement. “He’s changed the lives of so many young guys who have played throughout his almost 30 years as a head coach. I’ve known Bill for several years, but working closely with him over the last couple of months in my present job has shown me more on a daily basis how deeply he cares about the system. We’re certainly proud he started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at KU in 1985 and this new contract will guarantee he concludes his training career here also.”
Self was connected with a possible move to the NBA for the last couple of decades, particularly after the FBI investigation into school basketball which comprised alleged obligations from Adidas into some former Kansas players. The NCAA finally billed Kansas with five Grade I offenses, such as charging the school with a lack of institutional control and self with mind trainer obligation violations. There haven’t been any punishments handed down nonetheless.
