Kevin O’Connell, the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, shared a funny anecdote about trying to avoid dancing at his own wedding back in 2010. He revealed that he attempted to use the legal language in his contract as a player to get out of hitting the dance floor with his wife, Leah. Despite his efforts, he was unsuccessful in dodging the dance but managed to make it through unscathed.

O’Connell, who played as a quarterback for the New York Jets in 2010, spent his NFL career from 2008 to 2012, primarily with the New England Patriots. He also had stints with the Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, and San Diego Chargers before transitioning to coaching.

After serving as an offensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins and Los Angeles Rams, O’Connell took on the role of head coach for the Vikings in 2022. Reflecting on his experience, he emphasized the importance of avoiding non-football injuries among players, citing instances where such incidents have occurred in recent seasons.

The Vikings had a 7-10 record last season and underwent some changes, including losing Kirk Cousins to the Atlanta Falcons. However, they signed Sam Darnold, drafted J.J. McCarthy, and re-signed Justin Jefferson to bolster their roster for the upcoming season.

As O’Connell continues to lead the team, he remains focused on keeping his players healthy and competitive on the field. Despite his attempt to sidestep dancing at his wedding, it seems that he’s now fully embracing the dance of coaching in the NFL.
