Lilac Festival Expands to 16 Blocks in Its 33rd Year

Calgary’s Fourth Street Lilac Festival, known as the unofficial start of the summer season in the city, is gearing up for its 33rd year. Last year’s festival saw a massive turnout, with thousands of people flocking to Mission to enjoy the festivities.

This year, the festival is set to be the biggest yet, expanding into Central Memorial Park and stretching across 16 blocks. Event producer Jennifer Rempel expressed excitement about the growth, highlighting the addition of new performers and vendors to the lineup.

To accommodate the expanded footprint of the festival, attendees are encouraged to take public transit, bike, or walk to the event. Road closures will be in effect along Fourth Street S.W. from 12th Avenue to Elbow Drive, as well as along 17th Avenue from Second Street to Fifth Street S.W.

Six stages will host over 70 performances throughout the day, providing a platform for local artists to showcase their talents to a diverse audience. In addition to the entertainment, attendees can explore a variety of local businesses offering everything from handmade jewelry to artisanal hot sauces and food trucks.

The Fourth Street Lilac Festival promises something for everyone, making it a must-visit event to kick off the summer season in Calgary. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the vibrant atmosphere and support local talent and businesses at this year’s festival.
