Australian Jordan and a man from the Amazon jungle fall in love through social media and spend hours video calling. Then she travels to see him.
The unexpected romance begins when Jordan happens upon Pitiuruk’s profile on Instagram. She is fascinated by his culture and attitude to life and decides to contact him. “I clicked on his page and just wrote to him,” she tells the New York Post and her followers on TikTok. Pitiuruk responds promptly, which takes Jordan completely by surprise.
The two then begin to communicate regularly, sharing information about their respective cultures and their daily lives via video calls. Pitiuruk, whose family lives in the Pastaza province in Amazonia in Ecuador and offers guided tours to educate others about their ancient culture, shows Jordan his daily life in the Amazon jungle.
After four months of intensive exchange, Jordan decides to quit her office job and travel to South America to meet Pitiuruk. After four flights, a total of more than 30 hours of flight time and a five-hour bus ride from Quito, Ecuador to Pitiuruk’s hometown of Guayusa Runa, she finally arrives. Pitiuruk and his family welcome her with open arms.
The two spend two weeks together, during which they communicate using body language despite the language barrier. “If the spark is there, it doesn’t matter if you speak the other person’s language. I’ve never had such a magical connection with anyone,” Jordan enthuses.
When she shares her story on TikTok, it immediately goes viral. Fans on the social media platform are touched by the love story. “I love your story,” many write and want to know what happens next.
Because the fairy tale is not over yet: thanks to a donation, Jordan will soon be able to travel to Ecuador again to see Pitiuruk.
