Lufthansa Launches New Direct Flight from Raleigh-Durham to Frankfurt

Today marks a significant milestone for Lufthansa as the airline commences non-stop service between Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, and Frankfurt, Germany. This inaugural flight not only provides a convenient link to Germany but also represents Lufthansa’s first service to North Carolina from its Frankfurt hub. Additionally, this route is the first-ever non-stop connection from Raleigh-Durham International Airport to Germany.

Lufthansa’s expansion in North Carolina not only reinforces its presence in the region but also offers Carolinians more options for direct travel to Europe. The new Raleigh-Durham to Frankfurt route, in addition to the existing Charlotte to Munich flight, establishes a strong network for seamless connections across Europe and beyond. Residents of North Carolina now have access to various destinations, including major business hubs, hi-tech companies, R&D centers in Europe, as well as sought-after locations for business travel like the Middle East and India.

Flight LH408 departs Frankfurt at 10:20 am and arrives at Raleigh-Durham International Airport at 1:50 pm. The return flight LH409 leaves Raleigh-Durham at 3:40 pm and lands back in Frankfurt at 6:05 am the following day. The service will operate five times a week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with an Airbus A330-300 providing 255 seats in a three-class configuration.

“The launch of service to Frankfurt was 10 years in the making, dating back to our early conversations with Lufthansa in 2014 and culminating in today’s arrival of the first nonstop flight from Germany to RDU,” said Michael Landguth, president, and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority.

Frankfurt, known as Germany’s most international city, offers rich culture, history, and is a financial powerhouse. Lufthansa Group passengers arriving in Frankfurt can easily connect to over 300 destinations worldwide through various carriers. The airline’s lounge offerings provide premium passengers with a comfortable waiting experience.

Lufthansa’s expansion in the United States continues with the addition of the Raleigh-Durham route, marking the carrier’s 26th gateway in the country. This dedication to expanding its footprint across North America is evident with recent launches of new routes and increased capacity on existing ones.
