A serious accident on Sunday evening claimed two lives: In Esslingen, a 54-year-old driver lost control of his car and crashed into a traffic light pole where several pedestrians were standing.

According to police, three pedestrians were hit by the car. Two women aged 27 and 28 lost their lives and a 16-year-old youth was seriously injured. The 28-year-old woman was so badly injured in the collision that she died at the scene of the accident.

The 27-year-old could not be saved either, despite immediate emergency medical treatment and transport to a hospital by rescue helicopter. The driver himself survived the accident with minor injuries.

The 16-year-old youth was seriously injured in the accident, but his life is not in danger. He was taken to hospital for further treatment.

According to the Stuttgart public prosecutor’s office, an expert is involved in the investigation into the accident. The Esslingen traffic police have taken over the on-site investigation into the cause of the accident.

A total of ten vehicles and 29 emergency personnel were on site. The fire brigade also responded with six vehicles and 25 emergency personnel. The vehicle involved in the accident was confiscated.
