David “Jake” Dutch, a Marine Corps veteran who served in Operation Desert Storm in 1991, was one of the two victims critically wounded by gunshots at the Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The 57-year-old sustained gunshot wounds to his stomach and liver, according to friends at the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars lodges in Lower Burrell.

VFW commander Lee Johnson described Dutch as a tremendous help to the club and a great person, along with his wife. Dutch has been a member of the VFW for a long time and is well-loved by all the members who are wishing him a speedy recovery. Another VFW member praised Dutch as a wonderful man who loves his country and former President Trump.

Friends at the American Legion also spoke highly of Dutch, describing him as a quiet and humble guy who keeps to himself. Despite his military background, Dutch does not boast about his service and is known for being a hard worker and a good friend. The community was shocked to learn that Dutch was one of the victims of the shooting at the rally.

Steven Penn, another friend of Dutch, highlighted his generosity and patriotism, stating that Dutch would give anyone the shirt off his back. Both the American Legion and VFW lodges are collecting donations to support Dutch and his family during this difficult time.

The other victim wounded at the rally was identified as 74-year-old James Copenhaver of Moon Township, Pennsylvania. 50-year-old Corey Comperatore, a volunteer firefighter from Buffalo Township, tragically lost his life while protecting his wife and daughters from the gunfire.

Federal authorities are still investigating the motive behind the shooter, Thomas Crooks’ assassination attempt on Trump. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the FBI to assist with the ongoing investigation.

The community continues to rally behind Dutch and his family, showing their support and solidarity during this challenging time. Dutch’s bravery and selflessness during the tragic event have left a lasting impact on those who know him, further highlighting his character and dedication to his country.
