Several visitors to an Augustiner beer garden in Munich are said to have shouted “Sieg Heil” together on Tuesday evening. This was reported by the “Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR)” citing a witness. Other guests intervened and called the police.
The witness stated that about a dozen young men, aged approximately 20 to 30, were sitting at a table.
At around 7 p.m., one of the men in the group stood up and gave a short speech with a shot glass in his hand, shouting “Victory” several times, to which the group responded with “Heil.” Since the end of the Second World War, the Nazi slogan has been banned in Germany and is subject to criminal prosecution.
Several visitors to the restaurant immediately reacted and informed the staff. They then alerted the police. The group was prevented from escaping until the officers arrived.
A police spokesman confirmed on request that there was a major operation in the restaurant. Further information will be available on Wednesday at the earliest. As “Bild” reports, the beer garden is said to be the Augustinerkeller on Arnulfstrasse.
